Biography

Bob Trane is a lifelong resident of Ward 7 who has produced progressive results for ward 7 while serving as Alderman. Bob and his wife, Nancy, are homeowners on Hooker Avenue and their daughter, Jessica, is a graduate of the West Somerville Neighborhood School, Somerville High School, and is currently a senior at New York University.

Bob is currently serving as the Ward 7 Alderman and Chairman of the Democratic City Committee for the ward. He is a past president of the Board of Alderman and has served as Ward 7 coordinator for Deval Patrick's campaign for Governor and Mike Capuano's campaign for Congress.

Highlights of Bob's tenure as Ward 7 Alderman include leading a successful effort to build new senior housing and Visiting Nurses Facility at Capen Court and opening a completely renovated Hodgkins Park. As President of the Board of Alderman, Bob created the first Special Committee on the Environment and Energy. This special committee was made a permanant standing committee in 2011 with Alderman Trane serving as Chairman. Supporting the placement of solar powered barrel/trash compactors throughout the ward, supporting funding for the planting of hundreds of new trees, and ensuring that recycling was expanded to include the current zero sort program are true testaments to Alderman Trane's dedication to the environment!

Keeping Ward 7 safe has always been a priority for Alderman Trane. He has overseen the reconstruction of over 20 new streets and sidewalks throughout the ward, successfully brought a new police sub-station to Teele Square, and is working for full implementation of community policing. He has also negotiated that developer mitigation money was used to install new traffic lights outside of Teele Square and successfully added new crosswalks and street lights to make Ward 7 more walker friendly.

Achievements aside, Alderman Trane has shown the residents of Ward 7 that his work is far from complete. In the summer of 2011, he led the charge against absentee landlords in the Tufts University neighborhoods, calling for the update and revision of quality of life ordinances to strengthen fines and penalties. Also during this time, Bob has called for the Massachusetts Department of Transportation to appear before the Board of Alderman to discuss the expedited timeframe for the Green Line Extension to Somerville.
