Issues

Powder House School
The City has decided to designate this building as surplus and it will be placed on the market for sale. A development that best serves both the community and the city is needed at this site! Proposals should be made to the community, so their input and ideas are included. At this point, there are six bidders and a review committee will be established to review the bids and make recommendations.

North Street Veterans Playground
The renovation of the North Street Veterans Playground has been an ongoing, community-involved project for the past couple of years. Many great ideas have been offered and the city is looking forward to making this park available for all residents to use! Currently, there are two schemes that the community is considering for this space and meetings will continue until we decide, as a whole, what is best for the North Street Veterans Playgrond.

Green Line Extension
Recently, the Governor proposed tax increases and toll revenue possibilities in a plan to increase spending on the State's transportation system by $13 Billion over the next ten years. The Green Line Extension through Somerville is part of this transportation system that would benefit from revenue increases. Phase one of the extension has begun in both Medford and Somerville with the renovation of bridges. Please continue to support this project as it will put each and every Somerville resident within a 1/2 mile of a Green Line station.

Teele Square Rebuild
Beloved businesses fell victim to a devastating fire in October of 2011, leaving a large space in the heart of Teele Square. Although some businesses have relocated elsewhere, we would like to see businesses come back to this area and serve residents with services and options they need. Meeting information will be dispersed to residents as proposals come in for development of this space.
